William O’Leary, Heidrick & Struggles Partner
Bill O’Leary is a partner in Heidrick & Struggles’ Washington, D.C. office and is a senior leader in the firm’s Global Government Affairs, Trade Association and Communications Practices. He specializes in conducting senior leadership searches and assessments within the areas of external affairs, corporate affairs, government affairs, communications, and marketing.
Prior to joining Heidrick & Struggles, Bill worked for a global search firm where he helped build a global corporate affairs practice. He had a successful career of more than 20 years in the public, private, and non-profit sectors within organizations both large and small. Bill was with the consulting firm Grenzebach Glier and Associates as senior vice president and managing director where he led the strategic communications consulting practice and served on the firm’s Executive Committee. In this role, Bill advised university, medical and health, research and policy, arts and culture and non-governmental clients on a full range of strategic planning, marketing, and communications issues.
He also served as the chief marketing officer for Georgetown University where he developed and led global marketing and communications efforts. Previously, Bill held marketing and communications roles at Citigroup, Fannie Mae, and a consumer technology startup. He began his career working for the White House and the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) in communications and external outreach roles.
Bill serves on the Advisory Board for the College of Arts and Humanities at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
Education: Bill received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, his master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University, and his Master of business administration from Georgetown University, McDonough School of Business.
