Melissa Harrison Vice President, Corporate & Public Affairs, Ogilvy
Melissa joined Ogilvy in 2017 following 15 years of experience in state and federal government, politics, and media. Drawing on this background, Melissa leads work on public affairs and public relations, industry advocacy, thought leadership, media training, and crisis communications for corporate, non-profit, and association clients.
Prior to joining Ogilvy, Melissa was the Deputy Associate Administrator of Public Affairs at the Environmental Protection Agency, where she also served as Press Secretary.
Melissa’s specific expertise in the environmental/sustainability field is enhanced with additional communication’s roles at the NRDC Action Fund and Ohio Environmental Protection Agency.
Before moving to DC, Melissa was active in politics in Ohio and served as the communications director for a congressional primary and spokeswoman for the We Are Ohio campaign. Melissa proudly served in the Ohio state government as the communications director for the Ohio House of Representatives democratic caucus, deputy communications director for the Ohio Senate democratic caucus, and legislative aide to two state senators. While still a student at Heidelberg University, Melissa worked for a small market radio station and wrote for a weekly newspaper.
Melissa has garnered high-profile media coverage for her clients in international and national outlets such as the Associated Press, Reuters, USA Today, The New York Times, Los Angeles Times, Politico, Wall Street Journal, Washington Post, and The Guardian. She has also appeared on cable television, including MSNBC and C-SPAN.
Melissa is active in her community as a member of the Truman National Security Project and as a co-leader for a monthly homeless outreach service in Washington, D.C. A graduate of Heidelberg University, Melissa earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and political science. She is a recipient of the University’s Young Alumni Achievement Award and Vice President of the Alumni Council. Melissa also studied at Oxford University in Oxford, England. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, practicing yoga, and spending time in the outdoors.
