In June 2009, Robert Fine convened the first social media conference on the East coast in Washington, DC. It garnered national attention with headline speakers from CNN and USA Today, resulting in the PBS News Hour airing a twenty-minute segment: “Twitter: Harmless Fad, or Web Revolution”. After taking the conference to twenty cities around North America, Robert published “The Big Book of Social Media Case Studies, Stories, Perspectives” in late 2010. It has since become a textbook classic used at numerous universities over the last decade. In May 2011, he launched The Social Media Monthly, to date the only print magazine covering social media. Named one of the hottest magazine launches of 2011 by MIN, it quickly garnered mainstream bookstore distribution in the USA and Canada, as well as 20 countries. In May 2016, he launched, a content vertical on all things virtual reality.

Robert was the Director of IT for International Operations at Conservation International (CI). Robert joined CI in 2000 to take responsibility for connecting all of CI’s thirty-five field offices to the Internet with broadband connectivity and a network connection to the CI headquarters in Washington, DC. During his 10 year tenure, he built an international staff of 25 IT professionals.

Robert has over ten years of additional work experience as a systems and sales engineer with various companies including CMGI, Hughes Network Systems, ioWave, and Raytheon, as well as two of his own consulting companies: GeoPlan, Inc., and The Cool Blue Company. Robert has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Villanova University, a master’s degree in environmental science and public policy from Johns Hopkins University and ABD at George Mason University.
