Axios Keynote: Using Smart Brevity for Effective Internal Communications

Never have humans communicated more — and found it more difficult to be heard. Our new remote reality and hybrid workforce puts a premium on clarity and consistency of message, and most managers are unprepared. Even the most sophisticated companies were getting clogged by the minute-to-minute churn of emails, messages and document dumps. On average, employees at large companies are each sending more than 200 Slack messages per week, and the typical business professional sends and receives 122 emails daily.

Once this communication crisis was exacerbated by COVID-19, Axios’ leaders were inundated with a surprising question from different corporations: How can we communicate with the clarity and efficiency of an Axios writer?

Axios co-founder and president Roy Schwartz will be interviewed by Mitch Marovitz, of UMGC, to discuss the lessons and data from the newsroom that help companies distill important information for effective internal communications.
